Using H5P Interactive Content (possibly the best activity tool for Courses by EDSPORA admin)

Have you ever wanted to have a quiz question pop up while a student watches an online video that you’ve assigned?  Wouldn’t it be neat if you could choose from a variety of question types (multiple choice, fill in the blank, long answer, discussion, etc.)?  And wouldn’t it be unbelievable if the quiz results automatically flew into the EDSPORA gradebook?

All of this is possible with an interactive video tool from H5P! H5P is a suite of interactive media tools that you may use in your EDSPORA course. Interested in learning more? Interested in learning more? See below for basic instructions to get started right away.

Available content types

H5P is a dynamic community, and is constantly improving and changing – new interactive content types are added regularly.  As such some of the content types featured in H5P’s online authoring tool may not be available within EDSPORA. Advanced fill the blanks

Description

Learners fill in the missing words in a text or choose the correct answer from a drop-down menu. For each blank, the learners are told if the entered answer is correct. If an answer is incorrect, an individual feedback text is shown for the exact mistake they’ve made and their attention is drawn to relevant parts of the text. If they only make a minor mistake, they get a warning message telling them what the exact problem is.

Authors enter text and mark blanks with ____. The correct answers, incorrect answers, and the respective feedback texts are then entered in another section below. Authors can also mark parts of the text as ‘highlight sections’ by surrounding them with !!. They can then reference these highlight sections when they enter the feedback texts for incorrect answers.

‘Advanced Fill in the Blanks’s is most useful in second language learning, where you can give the users individual hints, why certain tenses or word forms can’t be used in this case. While it is possible to have a ‘Check’ button at the bottom of the exercise and give feedback for all blanks at once, it makes more sense to enable the auto-check setting as the user is guided through the ‘fill the blanks’ exercise step by step.

If you don’t want to use individual feedback or ‘drop-down’ mode, the regular ‘Fill in the Blanks’ content type is easier to use and might be the better choice.

How to View and Export Attendance Report in Zoom

Zoom records the attendance of your participants. You can use this to keep track of attendance, assign a grade, or reach out to students who are not engaged.

How to: Bulk import users to a course

Bulk enrollments allows you to enroll students and add them to groups in a Edspora course using an excel file containing the students’ email address or user ID. Before you start, you will require an excel file containing a complete list of the students’ email address or user ID’s in the first column. Subsequent columns contain the names of any groups you want to add each student to.

Create your CSV

In order to upload your students successfully, you will need to create a CSV file with the students details. CSVs are simple to create – one way is in a spreadsheet package, making sure to save it as a .csv file type. At minimum, your CSV file should contain one column for the main student identifier, usually their email address but it can also be their user ID, or student ID number. Ensure you have column labels – this is because Edspora anticipates these and so ignores the first row of CSV file. In other words, don’t put any actual student data in your file’s top row. If you are using email then put ’email’, if you are using user IDs then put ‘userid’. If you want to enroll the students into Groups, include a second column which gives the group name for each student. Be careful to type these exactly. Give it a column heading ‘group’. You can add subsequent groups in subsequent columns.

Enrol the Students

In the Settings block on your course, under Course administration, click Users > Bulk enrolments.

Select Choose a file and upload your CSV file. Make sure Role to assign is left as student. Set First column contains to reflect they type of data you have used in your spreadsheet, either the students’ email address, userid or ID number. If you need to create groups, ensure Create group(s) if needed is set to Yes. If you would like to create groupings in your course, based on the groups that the students will been placed into, ensure Create grouping(s) if needed is kept to yes.
