How To: Check Your Grades in Edspora

Edspora makes it easy to see your grades through a customized report that will show you all currently graded assignments.

Your instructor may also use additional tools such as checklists or progress checkboxes to help you keep track of required activities by letting you check off, or automatically checking off submitted work (see below).

  1. Not all grades may be reflected in the grade book. Some instructors use complex grading formulae that don’t lend themselves to Edspora’s gradebook. Be sure to ask your instructor any questions you have about the gradebook.
  2. Your total points possible may not match someone else’s. In most cases, the total points possible in your gradebook will reflect only the items graded so far. Thus, if your instructor has entered a grade for the paper you turned in on time, but has not yet graded your friend’s late paper, your total possible score will differ from your friend’s.

View your grades in a specific class

  1. Log into Courses using your Edspora username and password.
  2. Identify the Course you would like to checked grades for and click on it.
  3. Along the left side of your course page, go to Navigation, then click Grades.
    • Remember, instructors can control when you see grades for specific activities, so if you do not see all your grades, they are probably hidden until your instructor opens them to you.

NOTE: Depending on how your instructor set up the gradebook, scores may be displayed as points, as percentages, as letter grades, or a combination thereof.

Your grades in all courses by using the ‘Overview report’

The Overview report shows your overall grades (like a report card), with links to your User report for each class you are currently enrolled in.
Note: Instructors may not allow you to see a running total of your current standing in a course, in which case you may only see a dash (-) for your grade in that course.

There are two ways to access your Overview report:

  • Log in to Edspora and from the User menu (top-right), select Grades. The Courses I am taking page opens displaying your grade Overview report.
  • If you are already viewing your grades for a particular course on the User Report page, locate and select the Overview report tab. The Overview report will open.

Track Progress Using the Activities Block

If your instructor has included the Activities block in your course, you can use it to monitor your work.

  1. Locate the Activities block on the course page.
  2. Click a link to an activity type (such as an Assignments, Quizzes, etc.) to view a table listing each item of that activity type.
  3. Depending on the type of activity, the table will provide a link to the activity, the due date, submission, and the grade. For example, if you click the Quizzes link, you can see a list of all currently available quizzes, links to each quiz, deadlines, and, once you have submitted the quiz and it has been graded, your grade.
Tip: If you notice that a quiz does not have a grade listed, you should probably check whether you have actually taken the quiz or need to in the future.

Checklist Activities

Some instructors add a Checklist activity to one or more Sections down the middle of a Edspora course. Checking off work isn’t the same as submitting.  Rather, these activities are memo tools for you to manage your work. Instructors may set up Edspora activities to automatically check when completed, but more often checklists are provided as a tool for you to manage your own workload.

Note: Not all courses have Checklist activities. This is an option your instructor may choose to add.

To use a Checklist:

  1. Click the Checklist link. The Checklist page will open listing the activities or resources included on the Checklist. Items on the list may be Edspora activities such as a Forum or a Quiz, or may include “offline activities,” such as attending an event or performing a task outside of class.
  2. Select the checkbox for each required activity as you complete it (some activities may be checked automatically upon your submission to a Edspora activity.)
  3. As items are checked off, the Progress bar at the top of the page updates to indicate the percentage of items you’ve checked.
Note: The progress bar does not account for the amount of time the items on the list will take; it is merely based on the number of items completed.

Checklist Block

If a course includes Checklist activities, you may also see a Checklist block on the side of the main course page if your instructor has chosen to add it. This block gives you a current count of how many activities you have completed out of the total.

At the bottom of the Checklist block, click More details to see an entire list of required activities, whether they are marked as complete, and the completion date.

“Progress” Checkboxes on the Course Page

Your instructor may choose to add checkboxes directly on the Edspora course page to help you to manage your own workload.
Note: Not all courses have checkboxes. This is an option your instructor may choose to add.

If checkboxes are enabled, you will see a heading at the top right of the main course page that says, Your progress. Below that, in the Topic or Weekly Sections, a checkbox will appear next to required items.

To mark an item as complete:

  1. Locate the item in one of the Sections on the course page. To the right of a required item, on the same line, you will see a checkbox.
  2. There are several ways this tool may be set to operate:
    • Auto-complete: Some activities are automatically checked when you complete an activity. For example, when you submit a quiz or upload an assignment.
    • Your instructor sets additional conditions: Your instructor may choose to mark items complete. For example, only after an activity has been graded.
    • You mark the checkbox: If the instructor has set an item to allow you to mark it as complete, you will see an empty checkbox. To mark the item as complete, click the check mark and a blue check mark will appear.
Note: This use of the tool is intended to help you keep track of completed work, so it is only useful if you are in the habit of checking off boxes when you finish an assignment.
  3. Once marked complete, the checkbox changes from empty to checked.

View File(s) Returned by Your Instructor

Sometimes, your instructors will send you files related to your assignments (rubrics or marked-up copies of your assignment file). You’ll find those files by reopening the assignment link where you submitted your work.

How To: Take a Quiz & Review Quiz Results in Edspora

Your instructor can deliver quizzes in Edspora using a variety of question types, including multiple choice, true-false, short answer, numeric questions, and more. Quizzes may be configured in different ways, so do not expect to always see the same thing when you take a quiz. For example, you may see quiz results as soon as you finish all the questions or even as you submit each question, or you may need to wait until after the quiz deadline or until all submitted quizzes are graded before results are released.

Take a quiz

  1. Log in to Edspora and navigate to your course, then locate the link for the quiz you wish to take.
    • Quiz links will always be located within the Sections that are stacked down the center of the page.
    • You can also access any released quizzes through the Activities block. Click the Quizzes link for a list of links to available quizzes for the course.
  2. Click the link to the quiz. The Quiz page will open showing a summary of information about the quiz. This may include:
    • The grading method.
    • The number of times you can retake the quiz (called “attempts”).
    • The date range the quiz is available to take.
    • The time limit for taking the quiz.
  3. To begin, click Attempt quiz now. A confirmation page will remind you of any time restrictions or a limited number of attempts.
Note: If your quiz is interrupted, you can return to the quiz and click Continue the last attempt to resume your work, even if you lose your connection to Edspora, as long as the deadline for the quiz has not passed.
  4. Quizzes may have one or more questions per page. The way you answer each question may vary based on the question type. Please note:
    • For multiple page quizzes, you can use the Quiz navigation panel (on the right) to move between quiz pages. The panel will show your progress as well as how much time you have remaining if your instructor set a time limit for the quiz. If free navigation is enabled by the instructor, you can use the Quiz navigation panel to move to another page or return to complete any unanswered questions. Completed questions will be highlighted differently from unanswered questions in the Quiz navigation panel.
    • For some quiz and/or question types, you will need to click Submit to ensure your answer is recorded.
    • For questions without submit buttons, enter your answers and click Next (on the bottom) to continue.
  5. When you have reached the end of a quiz, the Summary of attempt page will open. This page lists the quiz questions and indicates which ones have been answered. To return to a question for review, or to complete an unanswered question, click the Question number.
  6. Important! When you are satisfied with your answers, click Submit all and finish to finalize the quiz attempt.
Note: You will not be able to change any answers after you submit and finish the quiz attempt.

Review quiz results

Once your quiz has been graded and released by your instructor, you may be able to access a Quiz Review page where you can see quiz questions and your answers, view your score or grade and read instructor feedback. You can use this information to review the questions you answered incorrectly or which you could not answer.

How To: Submit an Assignment

Edspora lets instructors set up an Assignment with a variety of settings. For example:

  • Your instructor can control whether you can make only one submission or upload files after deadlines have passed and if you can re-submit files or not.
  • Some assignment types let your instructor return a submission with comments for revisions. You can then upload your revisions by returning to the link for the assignment.
  • Assignments can be for “offline” activities such as a classroom presentation or printed paper, in which case you will not submit anything on Edspora, but your instructor may use the Edspora assignment for grading and feedback.

Submit an Assignment

You may be asked to attach files or enter text directly into a text box. Note: If your instructor is asking you to upload a file, they should inform you what file format you should submit (eg., .pdf, .doc, .pptx or .docx).

  1. Select the link to the assignment. The Assignment page will open, showing instructions and your submission status (due date, grading status, time remaining, grade, etc.) for this assignment.
  2. Select Add submission. The Assignment submission page will open. Depending on how your instructor set up the assignment, you may have the option to submit file(s), enter text in a text entry box or both.
  3. To enter online text, type directly into the Online text boxAlternately, you can compose your submission in a word processing program and then cut and paste the text into the Edspora text box.
    • When pasting text into Edspora, for best results, paste the content as unformatted text.
    • For spell checking to work, it must be enabled in your browser. Once enabled, to see spelling suggestions press and hold the Control key on your keyboard and click OR right-click on your mouse (whether you are using a Mac or PC system will determine which operation will work).
  4. To submit a file using drag-and-drop:
    1. Arrange your computer desktop windows so that you can view both your browser window and your files on your computer (e.g., in an open folder or on your desktop).
    2. Drag files from your computer and release them on top of the big blue arrow in the Files area.
    3.  DO NOT drag-and-drop a .gdoc file from a Drive App desktop window into Edspora. Your instructor will not have permission to view the file. Instead, use browse for the file (for details, see the next step), or save the file as a PDF before submitting.
  5. To browse for a file:
    1. Under File submissions, at the top-left of the file area, click the Add… icon. The File picker window will open.
    2. Select a file from your computer, or from Google Drive:
      • To upload a file from your computer, click Upload a file (at left), then, below Attachment, select Choose file. Browse your computer and select a file, then click Open. The file name will appear next to the Choose file button.
      • To upload a file from Google Drive, click Google Drive (at left). You may need to log in. Click the File to upload.
Note: When you browse to Google Drive, Edspora will convert Google docs (.gdoc files) that were composed directly in Google to a sharable file type (.rtf,  .ppt, .xls, etc.)
    3. (Optional) If you want to rename your file in the File Picker, enter the new name in the Save as field, and make sure to include the correct file extension (.pdf, .doc, etc.) in the name so the file can open correctly for your instructor.
    4. Click Upload this file. The File Picker will close and an icon for your uploaded file will appear in the Files area.
  6. Once your file(s) appear(s) in the Files submission area, click Save changes.
  7. If your instructor allows you to revise your submission, you’ll see an Edit submission button on the Assignment page. Select Edit submission to add or replace files, or edit a text submission. When you finish making changes, click Save changes.
  8. For some assignment types, you will see a Submit assignment button. To finalize your submission, click Submit assignment, then Continue.Note: Once finalized, you will not be able to make any more changes.
  9. You can check under Submission status on the Assignment page to ensure your file is listed. You can also view feedback and grades from your instructor there.

Multiple submissions

For some assignment types, you may have the option to submit several or an unlimited amount of attempts (or drafts) for a single assignment. Because each course is different, you will need to communicate with your instructors on how submission attempts and feedback are configured for each Edspora assignment.

Troubleshooting: Can’t See My Assignments

  1. Are you looking at the correct course?
  2. Are you looking at the correct dates?
  3. If you don’t find the assignment listed, your instructor may not have made the course visible to students.
  4. Contact your instructor to see if he or she has made the course visible.
